Before we dig in… what kind of soil are we working with?

What Even Is Somatics?

Tools for the body. Language for your experience. Soil for your growth.

Short answer?
Somatics is the study of how your body experiences the world.

It’s how your breath shortens when life gets loud.
How your shoulders creep up when stress walks in the room.
How your belly unclenches when you feel safe.
How your whole system softens when someone truly listens.

Longer answer?
Somatics is the practice of noticing those things—and learning how to work with them, not against them.
It’s a way of returning to yourself. Of understanding that your body has been keeping the score, carrying the load, and holding the stories—whether you’ve been paying attention or not.

It’s not about “fixing.”
It’s not about “doing it right.”
It’s about supporting your nervous system—so that you can feel safe, connected, and grounded in everyday life.

Still unsure? Here’s how it might show up in real life:

  • A teacher pausing before reacting to a dysregulated classroom

  • A hopeful parent taking a deep breath before checking a fertility app

  • A widow sitting with her grief instead of pushing it away

  • A dad choosing presence over pressure

  • A granny learning to listen before offering advice

  • A mom realizing she gets to have a nervous system too

You don’t need to know all the science to feel the shift.
You just need a willingness to notice.

To pause.

To come back to the soil of your body, and plant something tender there.

Nervous system care for real life. (Not just the calm parts.)

We know what you're thinking.
“Wait, what is somatics?”
And more importantly… “Is this just another woo-woo thing I’ll forget to use by next Tuesday?”

We get it.
Somatics can sound fancy.
But the word soma just means “of the body.” That’s it.
Somatic practices are simply ways to notice what your body is telling you; through breath, posture, tension, stillness, and movement.

They’re not about fixing you.
They’re about tending to you.

Our Philosophy

We believe your body is wise.
We believe your story matters.
We believe the nervous system is a garden, not a machine.
And what it needs is tending, not hacking.

This work isn’t about achieving peak calm.
It’s about having the tools to come home to yourself, even when life is chaotic, loud, and a little crunchy.

We’re not here to shame your screen time or glorify your morning routine.
We’re here to remind you that you’re allowed to rest.
You’re allowed to repair.
You’re allowed to remember what it feels like to belong in your own skin.

About Us

Rooted in Presence, Grown Through Connection

Pam Wagil

Shantelle Wagil

Being Planted was born from a shared vision between two women deeply connected to family, memory, and the rhythms of life. We are sisters-in-law, both mothers of three, navigating the fullness of family, farm life, and creative work. One of us, a somatic therapist and farmer, the other, a photographer and storyteller.

We were looking for a way to merge our passions—a project that would honour the art of remembering, the practice of presence, and the power of reflection. The result was Being, an app designed to slow time, capture the meaningful moments, and give people the tools to shape their own stories.

Inspired by somatics, slow living, and the natural cycles of life, Being blends memory-keeping with mindfulness. It’s a space for documenting the everyday, reflecting on transitions, and imagining the future we want to live into.
