While You're Waiting: Finding Peace and Presence in the Fertility Journey
Waiting can feel like the hardest part.
Waiting for ovulation.
Waiting for results.
Waiting for the next cycle, the next appointment, the next chance.
And in that waiting, it’s easy to feel like life is on hold—like you’re caught in a loop of hoping and heartbreak, unable to fully settle into the present because your mind is always leaning toward what’s next.
But what if the waiting itself could be a place of nourishment instead of just a holding pattern?
Somatic therapy offers tools to help you root into the present moment, even while you’re hoping for the future. Because peace isn’t something we find at the finish line—it’s something we can cultivate right now. 🌱
Why the Waiting Feels So Hard
Uncertainty is one of the hardest things for the nervous system to process. The brain craves control, predictability, and resolution—and when it doesn’t get them, we can feel stuck in:
🌿 Anxiety – Overthinking, obsessing over details, feeling restless
🌿 Tension – Holding stress in the body, clenching, shallow breathing
🌿 Emotional exhaustion – The mental load of constantly tracking everything
Your body isn’t just waiting. It’s holding onto the weight of the unknown—which is why waiting can feel so physically and emotionally draining.
Somatic Practices to Find Peace in the Waiting
Instead of waiting in tension, we can shift into presence—helping the body feel settled and supported, even in the unknown.
🌿 Grounding in the Here & Now → When your mind starts racing into the future, anchor into your senses. Feel your feet on the ground, hold something textured in your hands, or listen to the sounds around you.
🌿 Softening the Breath → When stress builds, breathing tends to become shallow and tight. Try sighing out loud, lengthening your exhales, or placing a hand on your belly to encourage full, deep breaths.
🌿 Releasing ‘Held’ Tension → Notice where your body tightens in the waiting. Is your jaw clenched? Your shoulders raised? Your stomach tight? Consciously relax and soften those areas throughout the day.
🌿 Inviting Pleasure & Enjoyment → Your life doesn’t have to be on pause. What feels good right now? Maybe it’s movement, music, getting your hands in the dirt, or laughing at something silly. Let yourself fully experience joy, even while you’re waiting.
You Are Not Just the Outcome—You Are the Whole Journey
It’s okay to want something deeply. And it’s also okay to find presence and peace along the way.
Your body deserves to feel nourished and cared for in this season—not just once you reach the destination.
